Okay, so I’ve been messing around with horse breeding in this game I’m playing, and I quickly realized that figuring out the foal’s stats was a real pain. I mean, who wants to do all that math by hand every single time? Not me! So, I decided to do something about it.
First, I started by looking for something, you know, a tool, a chart, anything that could help. It’s a lot of page turn, but nothing fit to what I want to do.
My Building Process
So I thought to myself, “Why not just build my own calculator?”. I’m no programmer, but I figured I could learn the ropes. I opened up the easiest tool I could find and just, you know, started messing around. I wanted something super simple, nothing fancy.
I started by creating a basic form. You know, like those boxes where you type in stuff. I needed places for the parents’ stats:
- Mare’s Breed: For choose what breed the mare is.
- Mare’s Stats: For input stats of the mare.
- Stallion’s Breed: Same like above but for stallion.
- Stallion’s Stats: For input stats of the stallion.
After getting that setup, I had to figure out the formulas. It wasn’t as simple as just averaging the parents’ stats. I had to dig around in the game forums and wikis to find the actual breeding mechanics. It took some time, but I eventually found what I was looking for. Some games have hidden bonuses or specific breed combinations, so that was a bit of a rabbit hole.
I tested it, and tested it, and tested it. It was a real pain to find, and then copy and paste it into my simple tool, but it’s working. After what felt like a million tries, I finally got the calculations working right! I bred a bunch of virtual horses and compared their stats to what my calculator predicted. It was pretty spot on!
The feeling when I finally got it working was amazing. It’s like, I actually built something useful! It’s not pretty, sure, but it gets the job done. Now, whenever I want to breed a new horse, I just plug in the numbers and bam! I know what to expect. No more guesswork.
It’s basic, it’s rough around the edges, but it’s mine, and it makes my gaming experience so much better. It’s a little proof that even if you don’t know how to do something, you can always just jump in and learn along the way, and the accomplishment will reward you a lot.
