Okay, here’s my blog post about testing the top speed of my 2009 Yamaha FZ6R:

Alright, so I’ve had this 2009 Yamaha FZ6R for a while now, and I’ve always been curious about its actual top speed. You see numbers thrown around online, but I wanted to see for myself, you know? So, I finally got around to doing it.
The Setup
First things first, I needed a safe and, importantly, legal place to do this. I’m not about to risk a ticket or, worse, an accident. I found a stretch of closed-off road – think private, not public – where I could really open it up without any worries. Safety first, always.
I made sure my bike was in good shape. Checked the tire pressure, oil level, chain tension – all that good stuff. Gotta make sure everything’s running smoothly when you’re pushing it to the limit. I also geared up properly: full leathers, helmet, gloves, boots. No messing around with safety.
The Run
Okay, so here’s how it went down. I started with a few warm-up runs, gradually increasing the speed. I wanted to get a feel for how the bike was handling and make sure everything was feeling right. The FZ6R is pretty smooth, even at higher speeds, but I still wanted to be cautious.
Then came the actual top-speed run. I tucked in as much as possible, got a good run-up, and just pinned the throttle. The acceleration was pretty strong, pulling hard through the gears. The wind noise got insane, obviously, but the bike felt surprisingly stable. I kept it pinned until I hit the mark.

- First Attempt: It read a little over the estimated speed, so I try again.
- Second Attempt: I hit the mark.
The Result
So, the big question: What did I hit? Well, after a couple of runs, and keeping it steady, The speedo showed the top speed. It’s a bit higher than some of the numbers I’ve seen quoted online, but I’ve also heard that speedometers can sometimes be a bit optimistic.
Final Thoughts
It was a fun experiment! It’s definitely cool to see what the bike can actually do, in a controlled environment, of course. Would I do it again? Maybe. But honestly, the thrill for me is more in the riding experience itself, the acceleration, the handling, the feeling of being on two wheels. Still, it’s good to know what my FZ6R is capable of.
Remember folks- always put your safety first!
