So the other day, I got this crazy idea to make a hula bowl. I’d seen pictures of them online – these colorful bowls packed with all sorts of good stuff. I figured, why not give it a shot? I mean, how hard could it be, right?

First things first, I looked up some recipes online. Seemed simple enough. You basically just need a base, some protein, veggies, and a tasty sauce. Easy peasy. I headed to the grocery store and picked up what I thought I needed: some rice, chicken, a bunch of colorful veggies like carrots, bell peppers, and some greens, and the ingredients for a basic teriyaki sauce.

Once I got home, I started by cooking the rice. While that was going, I chopped up all the veggies. I tried to make them look nice and uniform, like in the pictures, but let’s just say I’m not a professional chef. They were all sorts of shapes and sizes, but hey, it’s all good. Then, I grilled some chicken that I’d marinated in a store-bought teriyaki sauce – didn’t have time to make one from scratch.

Next up, the sauce. I decided to wing it and make a simple teriyaki sauce, because store-bought can be good, sometimes we need to DIY. I mixed some soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, garlic, and ginger in a pan. I heated it up, hoping it would thicken, but it stayed pretty watery. Oh well, no big deal. It still tasted pretty good!

Finally, it was time to assemble the bowl. I scooped some rice into a bowl, added the grilled chicken, and piled on the veggies. Then I drizzled my watery but still yummy sauce all over it. It didn’t look exactly like the pictures I’d seen online, but you know what? It was my own creation, and I was proud of it!

    Here are some random thoughts:

  • First, go make a list of ingredients to avoid going back.
  • Second, make sure you have enough time to prepare the dish.
  • Third, find a good recipe and go for it.

And the most important part – it tasted delicious! It was a fun little cooking adventure, and I’d definitely do it again. Maybe next time I’ll try a different sauce or experiment with different proteins and veggies. The possibilities are endless! That’s the best thing. You can use your imagination and add your own ingredients or remove the ones you don’t like. This dish is very versatile!
