Merry Christmas in Swedish Language: Learn Easy Phrases and Say God Jul Like a Local

Alright, so the other day I was thinking, “How do you say ‘Merry Christmas’ in Swedish?” I mean, I love learning little bits of other languages, especially festive phrases. So, I decided to find out.

Merry Christmas in Swedish Language: Learn Easy Phrases and Say God Jul Like a Local

First, I grabbed my phone and opened up the Google Translate app. I typed in “Merry Christmas” and selected Swedish as the target language. Boom! It popped up with “God Jul.” Sounded simple enough, right?

But I wanted to be sure. I didn’t want to go around saying something that was totally off. So, I went to YouTube and searched for “Merry Christmas in Swedish pronunciation.” Found a couple of videos with native speakers saying it. I listened carefully, trying to catch the nuances of how they said it. It’s like, “God” is pretty straightforward, but “Jul” has a bit of a different sound than it looks.

  • Repeated the phrase out loud a few times, trying to mimic what I heard.
  • Asked my friend who speaks a bit of swedish to listen to me and she said it is good.

Finally, I felt pretty confident. I even practiced saying it with a little bit of a Swedish accent, just for fun.

I wrote it down in my notebook of useful phrases. I figure it might come in handy someday. Plus, it’s just cool to know! And that’s how I learned to say “Merry Christmas” in Swedish.
