Okay, so yesterday I wanted to catch the Oklahoma City Thunder game. But I wasn’t near a TV. No biggie, I figured I’d just listen to it on the radio. First things first, I grabbed my phone and started searching online for the right station.
It took a bit of digging, but I finally found out that all Thunder games are broadcast on the Thunder Radio Network. The main station is WWLS, which is 98.1 FM, also called “The Sports Animal.” I tuned my car radio to 98.1 FM, and boom, there it was! The game was already in progress, but I was just happy to be able to listen in.
- Tried a different station at first, 105.9 FM, but that was for a different area.
- Realized I needed 98.1 FM for Oklahoma City.
But here’s the cool part. I also discovered that you can stream the games online, but only if you’re within 75 miles of Oklahoma City. You can use the Thunder Mobile App or the WWLS – The Sports Animal app or website. Pretty neat, right? I downloaded the Thunder app to check it out.
I also learned that the main voice of the Thunder on the radio is Matt Pinto. I guess he’s a pretty big deal in NBA broadcasting. It’s always nice to put a name to the voice you hear.

Later, I did some more reading and found out that the Thunder Radio Network has stations all over Oklahoma, so even if you’re not in the city, you can probably still catch the game. And get this, you can even listen on SiriusXM! So many options.
Anyway, I just wanted to share my little adventure in finding the Thunder game on the radio. It’s a good reminder that even in this age of streaming and everything online, good old-fashioned radio is still alive and kicking. And hey, sometimes it’s kind of nice to just listen to a game without staring at a screen. Plus, I got to practice using my radio, which I haven’t done much lately. Overall, it was a success!
