Okay, so I was digging around for some old NFL stuff, specifically about the Minnesota Vikings’ 2009 season. You know, the year Brett Favre came out of retirement… again? That was a wild ride. I wanted to see the full roster from that year, just to reminisce a bit and see who all was playing alongside Favre.

First, I hit up a general sports stats site. It gave me the basic rundown of that season: a solid 12-4 record, first in the NFC North. Pretty good, right? They scored a ton of points, 470 to be exact, which was second-best in the whole league. Their defense was decent too, ranking 10th in points allowed. The site also mentioned that Brad Childress was the head coach.
But I needed the names! So I went to a football-specific database site. This one was a goldmine. It listed every player, their positions, and even how many games they played. I saw some familiar faces: Jared Allen, a beast on the defensive line, was there for all 16 games. Bernard Berrian was a key wide receiver, also playing all 16 games.
- Jared Allen, Defensive End
- Bernard Berrian, Wide Receiver
- Adrian Peterson, Running Back
- Brett Favre, Quarterback
Then I found another site that had the roster, but it was kind of basic – just listed the players without much detail. But it did remind me of some other players like Adrian Peterson. There were about 45 records in total. It did, however, have the coaches listed, which was helpful to cross-reference with the first site.
Season Summary
From what I gathered, the 2009 Vikings were a powerhouse. With Favre at quarterback and Peterson tearing up the field, their offense was a force to be reckoned with. The defense, led by guys like Jared Allen, was no slouch either. It’s cool to see how all these pieces came together that year. It makes me want to re-watch some of those games!
The interesting thing is, one of the sites mentioned their “expected” win-loss record based on some fancy stat called SRS, which I guess measures the strength of schedule and point differential. They were expected to win around 11.6 games, so they pretty much lived up to the hype.

This little trip down memory lane was fun. It’s always interesting to look back at these old rosters and remember the players and the stories from that season. Now, where did I put those old game recordings…?
