I’ve been living in California for a while now, and recently I moved to Brea. I’ve heard people talking about it, saying it’s one of the best places to live around here. And you know what? They’re right. It’s got this dense suburban feel, and it’s pretty safe compared to other places. I mean, I did some digging and found out that the crime rate here is only a little higher than the California average, and when it comes to violent crime, Brea is way below the state and national averages.
So, I was looking into some stuff, reading up on the history of Brea and what’s going on around town. I guess the name “Brea” means tar in Spanish. Apparently, a long time ago, people used to use this oil-soaked earth for fuel and other things around the house. Then, boom, the oil industry took off. Kinda interesting, right?
The Incident
Anyway, I came across some news about a shooting that happened here recently. It’s a bit unsettling, to be honest. There was this one incident where a guy was found shot in his home. The police got a call about it, and they’re investigating it as a homicide. It’s a bit scary to think about that happening so close to where I live.

They are starting to make me feel unsafe. I started to wonder if I really am safe living here, despite the good rep the city has. I will probably look into getting a security system for my home or something. Maybe get some pepper spray, just in case.
It’s a shame, really. Brea has a lot of nice things. There are plenty of restaurants and coffee shops around, so there are many places to go. But these incidents are making me think twice about things. I mean you know, I hope things get better. I guess it’s just something to keep in mind, you know? Be aware of your surroundings and all that. I will try to stay safe and not go out too much, especially at night.
