1998 Honda CBR900RR Review: Still a Beast? We Ride It to Find Out!

So, I got my hands on this 1998 Honda CBR900RR. Let me tell you, it was quite the experience. This bike, she’s a real classic, and I was pretty stoked to get to work on her.

First things first, I gave her a good once-over. Checked the tires, brakes, the whole nine yards. This bike had been sitting for a while, so I knew I was in for some surprises. The fuel tank was pretty gunked up, so I started by cleaning that out. Took some time, but I managed to get it all nice and shiny again.

Next up, I tackled the carburetors. These were an absolute mess. I took them apart, gave them a thorough cleaning, and put them back together. It was a bit fiddly, but hey, that’s part of the fun, right?

After that, I moved on to the engine. Changed the oil, replaced the spark plugs, and checked the valve clearances. Everything seemed to be in decent shape, which was a relief. I didn’t want to get into a full engine rebuild if I didn’t have to.

With the engine sorted, I focused on the electrical system. This bike had some pretty wonky wiring, so I spent a good chunk of time tracing wires and fixing some bad connections. It wasn’t glamorous, but it had to be done.

Finally, I got to the fun part – test riding! Fired her up, and boy, did she purr. Took her out for a spin, and it was like riding a rocket. This thing has some serious power. I was cruising along, hitting those corners, and just enjoying the ride.

Little Summary

All in all, it was a blast working on this CBR900RR. She’s a beautiful machine, and I’m proud to say I brought her back to life. It was a lot of work, but totally worth it. I mean, this baby can do 0 to 60 in like 3 seconds, and gets about 38 miles to the gallon. She is not just fast; she’s also pretty good on gas, which is a nice bonus. Now I can just sit back, relax, and enjoy the fruits of my labor.

Until the next project, of course!
