I was browsing some old NBA stuff the other day, and it got me thinking about Giannis Antetokounmpo back in 2016. Man, that guy’s journey is something else, right?
So, I dug into his 2016 season. I remembered it was around then he really started to blow up. I started by looking up some basic info. Turns out, the dude’s 6’11”! I mean, I knew he was tall, but that’s huge. Apparently, his height was debated a bit over the years, but one thing’s for sure, he’s grown since he joined the NBA in 2013. This guy is one of the most tallest players at 6’11.
From Zero to Hero
Then I checked out the timeline. 2016 was his fourth year with the Bucks, and yeah, that was definitely his breakout season. I found this game from December 23rd against the Washington Wizards. Giannis dropped 39 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists. That was his career-high at the time, and they crushed the Wizards 123-96. What a game that must have been!
Reading through some news articles from back then, I learned that he was born in Athens, Greece, in 1994. His parents were Nigerian immigrants. It’s crazy to think about the journey he’s had, from those beginnings to becoming an NBA champion in 2021.
The Greek Freak
- I watched a bunch of highlight reels from that season, and his playing style was just so unique.
- The way he used his length and athleticism, it was like he was a cheat code or something!
- He just dominated on both ends of the court.
- I can see why he became a nightmare for other teams.
His stats for the 2016-2017 season were insane: 22.9 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game. He really showed his skills in that season. I also found a fun fact from a video the NBA posted recently – apparently, Giannis has a kid on the way! Life’s moving fast for him, on and off the court.
Anyway, just wanted to share my little trip down memory lane. Giannis’s story is a good reminder that hard work and dedication can really pay off. It’s inspiring to see how far he’s come.
