Wally Moon baseball player facts: Everything you need to know is here for you!

So, I was digging into the history of baseball players the other day, and I stumbled upon this guy named Wally Moon. I’d heard the name before, but I didn’t really know much about him. I was curious, so I started to do some digging.

First, I wanted to know when he played and for which teams. Turns out, Wally Moon had a pretty decent career in the majors. He played for 12 seasons, mainly with the St. Louis Cardinals and the Los Angeles Dodgers. I found that he started playing in the majors in 1954 with the Cardinals and later moved to the Dodgers in 1959. Man, that must have been an exciting time to move to LA right when they were starting to become a powerhouse.

Getting into the Stats

Next, I got into his stats. I mean, that’s what really matters, right? He wasn’t a bad player. His career batting average was .289, which is pretty good. And get this – he had 1,399 hits during his career. I’d be happy with a fraction of that if I ever played!

  • Batting Average: .289
  • Hits: 1,399
  • Home Runs: 142
  • RBIs: 661
  • Runs Scored: 737

He wasn’t just about hitting singles, either. Wally knocked 142 homers out of the park. His best year for home runs was 1957 when he hit 24. Not too shabby! He also scored 737 runs and had 661 RBIs. This guy was a solid contributor to his teams. He also won one Gold Glove award.

More About Wally

Then I looked into his personal life and some fun facts. He was born on April 3, 1930, in Bay, Arkansas. He was named after a college football coach. Can you believe that? He started playing in the majors when he was 24 and actually got a home run in his very first at-bat. That’s just nuts!

After his playing days, he got into coaching, even spending time with the San Diego Padres in 1969. Later he went into education. It was interesting to find out that his family had a background in education, and he himself had a master’s degree in administrative education.

He wasn’t a Babe Ruth or anything, but he made his mark on the game. I always enjoy learning about these players and their stories. It really puts the game into perspective.
