Okay, so I was digging around the internet, trying to figure out where KTM motorcycles are actually made. You know, those flashy orange bikes that always catch your eye? Yeah, those. I’ve always been curious, so I figured it was time to get to the bottom of it.

First things first, I started with a simple search. You wouldn’t believe the rabbit hole I went down! Turns out, there’s a ton of info out there, but it’s kind of all over the place. Some say it is in Austria, some say it is in China and some say it is in India. I was confused at first.
So, I decided to roll up my sleeves and do some real digging. I went through a bunch of articles and forum threads. It was a bit of a mess, but I started piecing things together.
Here’s what I found out: KTM’s main hub is in Mattighofen, Austria. That’s where the magic happens, you know? They’ve got this huge, fancy factory there where they design and put together a lot of their bikes.
But that’s not the whole story. It seems like KTM has been spreading its wings a bit. They teamed up with this company called CFMOTO in China. I read that they even started a joint venture called “KTMR2R” back in 2017. So, they’re making some of their bikes over there, too, specifically the KTM 790 DUKE and KTM 790 ADVENTURE. Low costs and lower quality control, I think so. And they also assemble some smaller models in China.
And guess what? There’s more! They also have a plant in India. It’s like they’re taking over the world, one bike at a time! In total, there are 3 KTM manufacturing plants and 7 CKD/CBU facilities around the world.

It’s all about business, right? Lower costs in places like China, maybe some quality control headaches, but hey, that’s the price of going global. I read an article that talked about how KTM’s been around since the early days, and how it’s been owned by this company called Pierer Mobility AG since 1992.
So, there you have it. KTM motorcycles are made in a few different places, but the heart of the operation is still in Austria. It’s a pretty cool story when you think about it, from a small town in Austria to factories all over the world. I even found a video where KTM invited a bunch of media folks to their headquarters in Mattighofen. It looked pretty awesome!
Anyway, that’s my little adventure into the world of KTM manufacturing. Hope you found it as interesting as I did!
