Did Poirier Beat McGregor? A Look at Their Epic UFC Showdowns!

Okay, so I’ve been digging into this whole Dustin Poirier vs. Conor McGregor thing, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. I mean, these two have been going at it for like a decade now. I remember watching their first fight way back in 2014. McGregor knocked Poirier out cold, and I thought, “Well, that’s that.” But boy, was I wrong.

The Rematch

Fast forward to January 2021, and they’re at it again. This time, Poirier gets his revenge and knocks McGregor out. I was like, “Whoa, didn’t see that coming!” It was a totally different fight, and Poirier really showed what he was made of. So, of course, they had to do a third fight to settle the score, right?

The Trilogy

This is where things get crazy. They faced off again in July 2021 at UFC 264. I was on the edge of my seat for this one. The first round was intense, both guys throwing everything they had at each other. Then, near the end of the round, McGregor steps back awkwardly, and boom! His leg snaps. I’m not kidding, it was gruesome.

  • I watched it live, and the moment his leg broke, I cringed.
  • The whole arena went silent; you could hear a pin drop.
  • Everyone was in shock, including me.

The Aftermath

So, the fight was stopped. The doctor came in, checked out McGregor’s leg, and that was it. Poirier won by TKO. It was not the way anyone wanted it to end, but that’s how it went down.

  • I felt bad for McGregor, honestly.
  • Breaking a leg like that is no joke.
  • But, Poirier did what he had to do, and he won fair and square.

After the fight, all this talk about how much money McGregor made despite losing. I read somewhere he pulled in like $33 million for that fight, and about $22 million for the previous one against Poirier. The guy’s making bank, even when he loses. Crazy, right?

Poirier’s Style

One thing I noticed about Poirier is he’s a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The guy’s legit on the ground. He’s got that “Diamond” nickname for a reason, tough as nails. I watched some of his other fights, and he’s got some serious skills. He really outclassed McGregor in that second fight. And that’s from me, a Conor fan.

Conclusion

This whole saga between Poirier and McGregor has been a rollercoaster. Three fights, lots of drama, and a brutal ending. Poirier came out on top in the end, proving he’s one of the best in the game. I’m excited to see what’s next for both of these guys. They’ve given us some unforgettable moments, that’s for sure.

So yeah, that’s my take on the whole Poirier vs. McGregor deal. It’s been a wild few years following these two, and I’m sure there’s more to come. I’ll keep watching, and I’ll keep you guys posted.

Hope you enjoyed my little recap. Stay tuned for more, folks!
