Want to get to know Nicky Blair much better? (Here is everything you really wanted to know about them now)

Alright, so I decided to finally tackle something I kept hearing about, this ‘nicky blair’ approach to sorting things out. Not sure where I first saw it, maybe some forum or a chat somewhere, but the name stuck.

Getting Started

My main problem was the drawer next to my bed. You know the one. Full of random bits and pieces – old chargers, keys that probably don’t open anything anymore, loose change, just junk. It was getting on my nerves. So, I thought, let’s try this nicky blair idea, whatever it actually was. I figured it meant just being methodical.

First step, I dumped the whole drawer out onto the floor. Made a right mess, but you gotta start somewhere, right?

The Process Itself

I didn’t have a fancy plan. Just started sorting things into piles:

  • Stuff to keep.
  • Stuff to throw away.
  • Stuff that belonged somewhere else entirely.

It took longer than I thought. Found about three old phone chargers that don’t fit anything I own now. Straight into the bin pile. A load of old receipts too. Why do we keep those?

Then, the ‘keep’ pile. This was the tricky bit. I decided to be strict. If I hadn’t used it in six months, did I really need it cluttering up the drawer? Probably not. More things went into the bin pile. Felt pretty good, actually.

For the stuff I was keeping, I tried to group them. All the spare keys clipped together. Loose change into a small jar I found. The few cables I actually needed got wound up neatly with some twist ties I had lying around.

This part was key: putting things back in an orderly way. I didn’t buy any fancy organizers. Just placed the groups back into the drawer, leaving space between them. Keys in one corner, the change jar in another, cables at the back.

End Result

So, after about an hour, the drawer was done. It looked… okay. Much better than before, definitely. It wasn’t revolutionary, no magic involved. It was just basic clearing out and sorting.

Maybe that’s what the ‘nicky blair’ thing was really about – not some specific technique, but just the act of finally doing the tidying up you’ve been putting off. It worked for my drawer, anyway. Simple, practical, got the job done. Sometimes that’s all you need.
