Okay, so today I’m gonna spill the beans on my little baseball experiment: “kai murphy baseball.” Buckle up, it’s a bit of a ride.

Kai Murphy Baseball: What makes him special?

First off, I gotta admit, I’m no baseball pro. I just thought it would be cool to see if I could train like one, even for a little bit. So, I started by watching a ton of videos. Like, hours and hours on YouTube, looking at hitting drills, fielding techniques, and even some pro games to see what the big guys were doing.

Then, I mapped out a basic training plan. Nothing too crazy, just focusing on the fundamentals. I figured I’d work on my swing, my throwing arm, and my agility. I even tried to mimic some of the warm-up routines I saw the pros doing. Let me tell you, those stretches are no joke!

Next up was the gear. I already had a glove from when I was a kid, but it was ancient. So, I splurged on a decent bat and some baseballs. Found a cheap batting tee online, too. Didn’t want to break the bank, ya know?

Hitting Practice: This was where things got real. I set up the tee in my backyard and started swinging. At first, I was all over the place. My stance was off, my swing was clunky, and I was missing the ball more than I was hitting it. But I kept at it. I focused on keeping my eye on the ball, keeping my swing smooth, and following through. Slowly but surely, I started making better contact. The ball started going further, and it felt…good.

Throwing: My arm felt like it was gonna fall off! I started with short tosses and gradually increased the distance. I focused on my form, trying to keep my elbow up and my wrist loose. It was tough, but I noticed improvement after a few sessions. My throws were getting more accurate, and my arm wasn’t as sore afterwards.

Agility Drills: Oh man, this was humbling. I tried some basic cone drills to improve my footwork and speed. I felt like a baby giraffe trying to walk for the first time. Super awkward and uncoordinated. But, like everything else, it got a little easier with practice. I could definitely feel myself getting quicker and more agile.

Here’s a peek at what a typical week looked like for me:

  • Monday: Hitting practice
  • Tuesday: Throwing practice
  • Wednesday: Rest (Needed it!)
  • Thursday: Agility drills
  • Friday: Hitting and throwing combo
  • Saturday: Light cardio (jogging, just to stay active)
  • Sunday: Complete rest

Of course, I didn’t become a baseball superstar or anything. But I definitely learned a lot about the sport and myself. I realized how much dedication and hard work it takes to be even remotely good at baseball. And, more importantly, I had a blast doing it! I also got a lot of sun, which was cool.

This “kai murphy baseball” thing was really just a fun experiment. It showed me that you can learn new skills at any age if you’re willing to put in the effort. And it reminded me that sometimes the best things in life are the things you do just for the fun of it.

Would I do it again? Absolutely. Maybe next time I’ll even try to join a local baseball league. Who knows? Until then, I’ll keep practicing in my backyard, dreaming of hitting that game-winning home run.
