Checking Past Players Championship Results: Find Out the Winners!

Okay, so I was messing around trying to figure out who actually won the Players Championship in past years, right? It’s always a fun tourney, and I wanted to see if there were any patterns or just total random luck.

Checking Past Players Championship Results: Find Out the Winners!

First thing I did, naturally, was hit up Google. Typed in “past players championship results” – super original, I know. Got a bunch of links, mostly to the official PGA Tour site and some sports news places like ESPN.

PGA Tour site seemed like the best bet, so I clicked on that. Navigated to the “history” or “results” section – can’t remember exactly what it was labeled, but you know the drill. They had a list of all the winners, going way back. Like, way, way back. Had to scroll for a bit.

What I really wanted wasn’t just the winner’s name, though. I wanted the scores, maybe some highlights from the tournament. So, I started clicking on individual years. This is where it got a little tedious, gotta be honest.

  • Clicked on 2023. Saw Scottie Scheffler won. Cool.
  • Clicked on 2022. Cam Smith. Remember that mullet.
  • Went back to 2021. Justin Thomas.

You get the idea. Each year had a leaderboard, with the scores for all the players. Some years had little recaps, like “so-and-so eagles 18 to win!” or whatever. Those were fun to read, gave a little context.

I noticed some guys won more than once. Tiger, of course. Davis Love III. Just started jotting down some names in a notepad (yeah, real old-school) to see who had multiple wins.

Then, I decided to get fancy. Instead of just clicking around, I figured there had to be a faster way. Tried searching the PGA Tour site specifically for “players championship results [year]” replacing [year] with, like, “2010” or “2005”. That worked a little better, got me to the specific results page quicker.

ESPN was surprisingly helpful, too. They had a good archive of past tournaments, with some decent summaries and videos. Plus, their site loaded faster than the PGA Tour one, sometimes.

In the end, didn’t find any groundbreaking patterns, honestly. Just a bunch of great golfers playing great golf, some lucky breaks, and a whole lot of pressure. But it was a fun way to kill an afternoon and brush up on my golf history. Now I can sound like I know what I’m talking about when the next Players rolls around!
