Alright, so the other day I decided to revisit “Anna Karenina,” but not the book – the 2012 movie version with Keira Knightley. I’ve seen it a few times before, but this time I wanted to really focus on the costumes and the set design, because, wow, they’re amazing.

First, I found a good quality version online. You know how it is, sometimes you end up with some blurry, pixelated mess. Not this time! Got a nice, crisp HD version. Gotta appreciate the details, right?
Getting into It
- Prepared some snacks. Popcorn, obviously. A movie night essential.
- Dimmed the lights. Gotta set the mood, you know? Like a mini-movie theater in my living room.
- Hit play.
Okay, so, throughout the movie, I was constantly pausing and rewinding. Seriously, the costumes are insane! The dresses, the jewelry, the hats… everything is so intricate and beautiful. I spent a good chunk of time just admiring the work that went into them.
The Details
Then there’s the set design. It’s all very theatrical, which I know some people didn’t love, but I think it works so well. It’s like watching a play unfold on screen. I was especially captivated by the scenes in the train station and the opera house. The way they use the space and the lighting is just gorgeous.
I even grabbed my notebook and started jotting down some notes and sketches. I’m not an artist or anything, but I just wanted to capture some of the details that stood out to me. Colors, shapes, textures… all that good stuff.

End Result
By the end, I had a few pages of messy notes and scribbles, but I felt like I’d really seen the movie in a new way. It wasn’t just about the story this time; it was about appreciating the artistry behind it. Definitely recommend giving it a watch, and really paying attention to the visuals. You won’t regret it!
