Okay, so I’ve been meaning to dig into Mike Conley Sr., the Olympic triple jumper, for a while now. I kept seeing his name pop up in random places, and I figured it was time to see what the hype was all about.

Getting Started
First, I hit up the usual spots – you know, just to get a general overview. Got the basic stats: Olympic gold and silver medalist, former world record holder, the whole nine yards. But that’s just surface-level stuff, right? I wanted to know more about the how.
Deep Dive into Training
Next, I started looking for any training info I could find. It’s always interesting to see how these elite athletes approach their craft. I found some old interviews and articles mentioning his focus on plyometrics and speed work. Made sense, given his explosive power.
- Plyometrics are for sure, there were a lot of exercises.
- I have seen many of his speed and power training methods.
- I also tried some of his training schedules.
Trying it Out
Of course, I had to try out some of this stuff myself! I’m no Olympian, but I can still appreciate a good workout. I incorporated some box jumps and bounding drills into my routine. Definitely felt the burn – my legs were sore for days!
I did the following schedule.
- Monday: rest
- Tuesday: plyometrics
- Wendesday: rest
- Thursday: speed work
- Friday: rest
- Saturday: bounding drills
- Sunday: rest
The Results (So Far)
It’s still early days, but I can already feel a difference. I feel a bit more “springy,” if that makes sense. It’s like my muscles are more responsive. It’s definitely a different kind of training than I’m used to, but I’m enjoying the challenge.

I’m going to keep experimenting with these techniques and see how it goes. Maybe I won’t be breaking any world records, but I can at least get a taste of what it takes to be an elite athlete like Mike Conley Sr. It’s pretty inspiring, to be honest.
