Okay, so today I want to talk about the 2019 Yankees Opening Day lineup. Man, what a season that was! It feels like just yesterday I was getting ready to watch that first game.

First things first, I started digging around to refresh my memory. I wanted to see who was even on the team back then. I’m not going to lie, I couldn’t remember everyone, especially after those games in Japan to kick things off. It was crazy, right?
Finding the Info
I spent a good chunk of time just trying to find the roster. Turns out, it was a bit of a pain. I was piecing things together from different places, trying to figure out who played where. Some websites had bits and pieces, and others were just stats, no real story behind them. It really shows how scattered this information can be sometimes.
The Lineup
- Catchers: I saw that they had Jose Trevino and Austin Wells. Looks like Trevino got the Opening Day start. It’s funny, they were saying it might be a 60-40 split with Wells playing time, which is kind of interesting to see how that played out.
- Other Positions: Then I was trying to match up other names like Rizzo and LeMahieu to their positions. It mentioned a game against the Giants where they won 5-0, and that lineup seemed pretty solid.
Injuries and Stuff
Then there was the whole injury situation. I found out that Luis Severino and Dellin Betances were both out with injuries. I remember that being a big deal at the time. Severino was supposed to be the ace, and Betances was a key setup guy. Having them both out right from the start, it had me worried about how the season would go, to be honest.
Putting it Together
So, after I gathered all this information, it took some time to put the pieces together. I mean, it wasn’t as easy as just finding a simple list. I had to cross-reference things, remember what I could from watching the games, and try to make sense of it all. Eventually, I got a decent picture of what the Opening Day lineup was supposed to be.
Looking Back
It’s kind of nostalgic, looking back at that season. The Yankees ended up losing to the Nationals in the World Series. But still, it was an exciting year. I remember watching a lot of those games. Just trying to figure out this lineup brought back a lot of those memories. I even saw that the Yankees have a pretty good record on Opening Day, which is cool. They’ve won like 17 out of 27 World Series seasons on that day.

Anyway, that’s my little trip down memory lane. It wasn’t the easiest thing to research, but it was fun to piece together. It makes you appreciate the game and all the little details that go into it. Plus, it’s always interesting to see how a team changes from year to year.
