Okay, so I’ve been wanting to compile a list of all the NBA free agents for 2017. It’s a bit of a throwback, but hey, I find it interesting to see how the market was back then. I started by looking up some articles and news from that time. I think I found a decent piece on CBS Sports, they had a “Free Agent Tracker” that they were updating.

Then I started jotting down some of the signings I found. For instance, I saw that Yogi Ferrell, who was a restricted free agent, had his option picked up by the Mavericks. Ron Baker, another restricted guy, was going back to the Knicks. Oh, and Milos Teodosic signed with the Clippers – that was a two-year deal.
I also wanted to understand how things were after the salary cap spike in 2016, you know, to get a better picture of the landscape. I was just curious about this whole thing, ok? It’s amazing to think about how much teams were spending and how the market was evolving. I noticed some teams were limited in what they could offer because of their salary cap situation. For instance, the Phoenix Suns were a second-apron team, so they were a bit restricted, but they still managed to get Monte Morris and Mason Plumlee. They also re-signed Royce O’Neale, Damion Lee, and Bol Bol. And they added Collin Gillespie on a two-way deal. It was interesting that NBA free agency will begin at 6 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 30. Teams can negotiate with free agents but cannot start signing until 12:01 p.m. ET on Saturday, July 6.
I kept digging and found that the Bucks picked up some veteran players like Gary Trent Jr., Taurean Prince, and Delon Wright. Apparently, these guys had other options but chose Milwaukee. As Bucks Head Coach Doc Rivers said, “That says a lot to us, that they think that this is the right place.”
And the Warriors, they were busy too. They acquired Kyle Anderson and Buddy Hield in a six-team sign-and-trade deal. That involved the Timberwolves, 76ers, Hornets, and Nuggets. What a deal, right?

It was a fun little project. I just wanted to organize all this info, and it’s cool to see how things played out. I might do this for other years too, just for kicks. I guess I was doing this for fun and it wasn’t anything serious, ok?
