Alright, guys, gather ’round, let me tell you about my little project with the 2006 CBR600RR. I’ve always been a fan of this bike, a real classic, and I finally got my hands on one. It was in decent shape, but you know me, I can’t leave anything stock.

So, first things first, I wanted to see what kind of power this baby was putting out. The internet says it’s supposed to be around 117 horsepower at the crank, and about 106 at the wheel. But those are just numbers, right? I needed to see for myself.
I took it down to my buddy’s shop, he’s got a dyno, which is basically a treadmill for motorcycles that measures their power. We strapped the CBR down, made sure everything was secure, and started the test. I love this moment, engine is coming to life, and you can feel the energy.
I warmed it up, then let ‘er rip. The engine screamed, and I watched the numbers climb on the dyno chart. It’s a real rush, hearing that engine roar and seeing the power it’s putting out.
Here’s what I found:
- Peak Horsepower: My CBR hit just over 105 horsepower at the wheel. Not too shabby, it’s pretty close to what the online sources say you should expect. This means I did not lose much power during these years.
- RPM: The power peaked around 13,000 RPM, just like the specs said. This bike loves to rev high.
- Torque: The torque was a little under 49 lb-ft, peaking around 11,000 RPM. This is the main feature of this model. The number is also normal for me.
Now, I know some of you might be thinking, “105 horsepower? That’s it?” But trust me, on a bike this light, it’s plenty. This thing is a rocket on two wheels. And besides, this was just the starting point.

I’ve got some plans for this CBR. A few tweaks here and there, maybe a new exhaust, a power commander, and some tuning. I’m not looking to build a drag bike, just want to wake it up a little bit more and get the most out of that sweet engine. I’m excited about it.
I’ll keep you guys posted on the progress. It’s gonna be a fun ride, literally and figuratively. Stay tuned for more updates!
What are my next steps?
Now that I have some real numbers on my CBR’s horsepower, it’s time to get to work! I’m planning on making a few changes to see if I can squeeze a little more power out of her. First up, I’m thinking about a new exhaust. The stock one is fine, but I bet I can find something that breathes better and maybe even sounds a little meaner. And while I’m at it, I might as well install a power commander. That way, I can fine-tune the fuel mapping and really get the engine running its best. I’ve heard these two changes alone can make a big difference. After that, it’s back to the dyno to see what kind of gains I’ve made. I’m not expecting huge numbers, but even a few extra horses would be nice. Wish me luck! And stay tuned for updates – I’ll be sure to post my progress (and maybe a few videos of that sweet engine sound) along the way.
