YES BANK, a new age private sector Bank, today held an event called ‘Catch the Rain’ at its Chennai branch, to generate awareness on the critical issue of Rain Water Harvesting for conservation of water. This event is being conducted simultaneously across the YES BANK retail branch network in the
country. The event is a part of its recently announced YES COMMUNITY program, a unique Responsible Banking initiative to be executed through micro-events being organised at the Bank’s retail branch network nationally.
YES BANK invited technical subject experts, institutions, entrepreneurs and businesses to share benefits of Rainwater Harvesting and urged them to come forward and proactively adopt Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) to address the water scarcity issue in urban areas. The event comprised of screening the video – ‘The Rain Catchers’ produced by Center for Science and Environment (CSE), New Delhi, followed by a participatory discussion which covered basic concept, advantages and relevance of Rain Water Harvesting in urban areas. A Water Harvesting Manual for Urban Areas was also shared with the participants at the event.
YES BANK believes that Rainwater harvesting (RWH) is one area where awareness could bring about better advancements in addressing the water crisis in urban areas.
The objective of YES COMMUNITY is to build relations with the stakeholders around the Bank’s retail branches thereby identifying with causes which are in public interest within the given community. The Bank believes that such initiatives will not only help in fostering stronger relationships but also emphasise on nurturing the values of TRUST and TRANSPARENCY, two of the key pillars of the Bank, with all stakeholders, thereby adding long term value to society.
YES BANK has a vision to champion 'Responsible Banking' in India, where the concepts of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainability are integrated in its Business Focus. The Bank is actively engaging with various stakeholders in the society, going beyond financial transactions to build strong community focused relationships, with the endeavour to foster inclusivity through community engagement initiatives within its Retail Banking operations.
In the first year of its inception, YES COMMUNITY has adopted the theme of ‘Planet Earth’ for the Financial Year 2009, to reinforce the message of United Nations (UN), which has declared 2007-2009 as the International Year of Planet Earth. The UN sees the Year as a contribution to their sustainable development targets as it promotes wise sustainable use of resources and encourages better planning and management to reduce risks for the world’s inhabitants.
The YES COMMUNITY program will be implemented through micro-events organised at YES BANK branches around the theme of Planet Earth. As a responsible global corporate, YES COMMUNITY aims to contribute to the society and the environment towards the best interest of its stakeholders. Towards this, the micro-events would focus on sub-themes to Prevent Pollution, Recycle and minimize waste, Conserve Energy, Conserve Water and Improve Sanitation and cleanliness. YES BANK strongly believes that these are some of the key environmental plaguing issues that need to be urgently addressed within the Indian urban and rural society.
YES BANK has 80 operational branches across 69 locations nationally and 80 offsite ATMs in Mumbai and NCR & 2 Central Processing Centres in Mumbai & Gurgaon. YES BANK received the Best CSR practice Award at the NASSCOM Foundation – BSE Social and Corporate Governance Awards 2007.
