World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared the first week of August as World Breast Feeding week. It is celebrated to renew our commitment to the promotion of breast feeding. We have been celebrating World Breast Feeding week since 1992.
The International Summer Olympics for 2008 will begin
on August 8th immediately after World Breast Feeding week celebrations (1st to 7th August). In celebration of such a momentous occasion, the World Alliance for Breast feeding Action (WABA) has announced this year’s slogan as “Mother’s Support : Going for the Gold”.
The week long programme at Kanchi Kamakoti CHILDS Trust Hospital was inaugurated by Padmashree Smt. Sudha Raghunathan on Aug. 1st 2008 followed by a Poster Competition for Nursing Colleges and a Well Baby Contest. The Outreach Programme will be held at Community Hall, Sathya Nagar, Jafferkhanpet to spread awareness among pregnant and lactating women. We have arranged for Educative Sessions at Madras Christian College and Madras School of Social Work.
We will be conducting various Seminars and Quiz programmes for Doctors and Nurses. We have organized Public Forum Interactive sessions between mothers, Nurses, Social Workers and Doctors. This week long programme will conclude with Valedictory Function which will be held at the Auditorium of Kanchi Kamakoti CHILDS Trust Hospital on 7th Aug. 2008. Chief Guest for the function will be Bombay Sisters Smt. Saroja & Smt. Lalitha. All these measures are aimed to support a mother to provide a golden start for her child!
