Nude expression! ---------------------
Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik's fiancé Mushaal loves painting nudes. The Masters in political economy from the London School of Economics defends it on grounds of freedom of expression and claims that the money from the art sales goes to social groups in Pakistan working for women and gender issues. Yasin is likely to get married early next year. The 39-year old separatist leader had vowed celibacy for insurgency's sake but his resolve melted on meeting the girl from Karachi last year at a conference in Islamabad. ---------------
Missing vibes ------------------
Rahul Gandhi may boast about his 'young team' in the Congress but the elite band is a divided lot. It was evident at a social get together in Delhi recently when young Sachin Pilot and Jyotiraditya Scindia were among a small crowd but the vibes were missing. They exchanged formal courtesies and then moved on. Grapevine has it that the cool vibes had a bit to do with Pilot's bid to make forays into Scindia heartland of Bhind-Morena region and build himself up as an influential 'gujjar' leader. Does it require Rahul Gandhi's intervention to enforce peace among his cadre? ----------------
Kamal Nath—global to local ------------------------------------
Union commerce and industry minister Kamal Nath is fancying his chances as the next chief minister of Madhya Pradesh if the Congress wrests the state from the BJP. Nath, a seven-time winner from Chhindwara is keen to do a 'state stint' and use his global experience for 'local solutions.' Nath camp rules out resistance from within claiming both Suresh Pachauri and Digvijay Singh were 'supportive' of his candidature. Nath intends to spend considerable time in campaigning in Madhya Pradesh. -------------
Monthly disquiet in the hills ----------------------------------
The political disquiet in Uttarakhand has become so frequent that the central BJP leadership has informally been dubbing the development as a "monthly newsletter." A section of the BJP leadership claims that dissidents are preparing hard to spice up their activities for their December editions of rebellion against chief minister Lt. Gen (retd.) B.C.Khanduri.
Some BJP leaders recall how senior leader Murli Manohar Joshi had expressed reservations when the former Lt. General was being considered for the chief minister's post. Joshi is credited with having said then that people of Uttarakhand wanted a politician and not a General. ----------------
Imitating Uncle --------------------
Raj Thackeray continues to take his uncle Balasaheb as his role model and is nearly obsessed with him. NCP and Congress leaders say few days after Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief was released on bail, Raj reportedly asked a TV monitoring agency for footage of comparisons between him and Shiv Sena supremo. This was in addition to his constant comparison with his uncle, their agenda, style of functioning, the content of speeches and even interest in cartooning. ------------
Vasundhra's olive branches ----------------------------------
The Maharani is a changed person these days.
In Rajasthan, Vasundhra raje Scindia has drastically changed her style of functioning and began reaching out to her detractors. She called on former Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat 'un-announced' and insisted on getting his blessings. The move was dramatic as Shekhawat group is perceived to be hostile to the BJP chief minister. Next her destination is residence of Jaswant Singh, another powerful BJP satrap who is reportedly unhappy with Maharani's style of functioning. But Vasundhra associates are confident that the by the time elections are held in the state, Jaswant-Shekhawat groups will work hard to get her another term in office. -----------------
Classy Ambika -------------------
Ambika Soni's ministry decided to celebrate the festive season and boost country's tourism potential. A lavish party was thrown at the minister's residence where the ambience was great, food sumptuous and guest list was long. Everyone had a great time and for those who were visiting the minister's Akbar Road residence for the first time, the décor and glass work was impressive. A closer look showed well laid card tables behind the transparent glass walls with some engrossed participants. Little wonder than that it has acquired the tag of being the best party of the season. ----------------
Pachauri's wrong number -------------------------------
The Election Commission has upset Congress' chief ministerial hopeful of Madhya Pradesh, Suresh Pachauri. The EC has changed date of polling from November 25 to 27. Pachauri, a firm believer in astrology and numerology was confident of edging out the BJP on a day when stars were most favourable to him. A change of dates offer a new scenario now. Pachauri considers seven as his lucky number. It's visible in his mobile, land-line, car registration and other numbers. ---------------
Merger problems ---------------------
The prime minister's office (PMO) is said to have turned down a proposal to merge Rastriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) with National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC). Both the PSUs are under the Steel Ministry. There was a proposal from SAIL to the Steel Ministry that it did not make sense to have two steel units, with a lot of synergy, under the same Ministry and strongly recommended that RINL be merged with SAIL. To overcome this possibility, RINL mooted NMDC's merger with it. The NMDC Board had rejected the proposal in early October, 2008. -------------------
Missing Priyo ------------------
The Bengal unit of the Congress is badly missing Priyaranjan Dasmunshi. Munshi, apart from holding charge of union I & B ministry, was heading WBPCC and holding talks with Mamata Banerjee. However his illness has put Congress-Trinamool alliance talks in a limbo. The absence of Munshi has brought forward Pranab Mukherjee to centre-stage of Bengal Congress politics. Since Pranab camp is not in favour of renewing ties with Mamata, the alliance talks have abruptly been halted.
