Question: "If Dr Ramadoss comes to our fold, we will welcome him heartily and treat him with respect and honour," says Jayalalithaa. Do you believe her?
Answer: Neither my belief nor disbelief will serve any useful purpose. While the person who ought to take this offer seriously will not do so for the time being, but Jayalalithaa has faith in the thought that it will come good in good time. As for me, I believe that such belief is not totally unfounded.
S Narayanan , Madippakkam
Question: The US nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Nimitz has left the Indian shores without any misbehaviour and ado as you predicted. Comment.
Answer: I only had the conviction to write what everybody knew when a propaganda war was mounted as though expressing an honest opinion in the matter was treason. Else, there is nothing more to write home about it.
S Ashok Raja, Aravakkurichippatti
Question: What is your take on Dr Ramadoss's comment that he cannot accept film personalities as intellectuals?
Answer: I don't subscribe to this view. Belittling film personalities as non-intellectuals is wrong because the industry has many who have enviable knowledge about a host of matters. In fact, to make a good movie, a lot of intellectual insight is a prerequisite.
Question: Haven't you noticed that the Taj has been chosen to be the topmost global wonder?
Answer: A private organisation, without any international statutory bodies' recognition has managed to sell this lemon to innumerable gullible people. The fact that a lot of us were taken in by this farce is a much bigger wonder.
P Balaji, Kovilampoondi
Question: Starting with the top leaders to the simplest worker, nobody in the AIADMK has access to Jayalalithaa. Is it a plus or minus point for the party?
Answer: Such a situation can never be a plus point for any party, at any time, for any leader, under any circumstances.
N Kalidas , Chidambaram 1
Question: Dr Ramadoss has urged the creation of an all-party protection organisation vis-à-vis the Cauvery tangle. What purpose will it serve?
Answer: Instead of apportioning the blame for not getting the water to a single party or a political grouping, he wants everybody to share the opprobrium. Such a body will have no say whatsoever in getting the much needed water.
N Jeeva , Tiruchi 4
Question: "The law and order situation in Tamil Nadu has deteriorated as has the liver of the state's police force," says Dr Ramadoss. Comment
Answer: Whatever be his motives for saying so, the accusation is true.
A Sabari, Chennai 4
Question: Restaurants ought to serve water that has been boiled to their clientele. Failure to do so will result in cancellation of their licence and closure, Local Administration Minister M. K. Stalin has warned. Comment.
Answer: The very fact that the minister concerned himself has to issue such a stern warning only shows how boldly irresponsible the restaurateurs have become. Shame!
M Mohammad Serfuddin, Paramakudi
Question: What is your take on the week long siege, the final assault to take Lal Masjid in Pakistan resulting in the deaths of several armed students and its resultant criticism against [President] Pervez Musharraf?
Answer: The religious fanaticism which Pakistan continues to nurture inside India seems to have gone home to roost. Since the "students" inside the mosque were armed to their teeth, launching an assault against them was inevitable. Notwithstanding the fact that this is bound to anger fundamentalists in that country and despite the fact that Musharraf himself is responsible for its growth, his decision to quell terrorism, in my opinion, is very much in the realm of acceptability.
P Balaji Ganesh, Kovilampoondi
Question: Haven't you noticed that terrorism has taken deep roots in Tamil Nadu?
Answer: Haven't you noticed that the DMK completed one year in office?
S Abdullah Ahmed, Nagore
Question: Had Abdul Kalam contested, he would have no doubt won hands down, opine Jayalalithaa, Vijayakant and several others. Comment.
Answer: Had I contested the elections, no doubt, I would have won too! I can say this because it is an impossible hypothesis now.
Sri Sat Guru, Chennai 93
Question: Karunanidhi claims that this is the golden era of Tamil Nadu. In spite of that, prices of essential commodities are killing us. When will there be deliverance?
Answer: Don't speak out aloud! Those in power may decide to justify the term "golden era" by ensuring that one would only get a packet of grains in return for a gold coin. Why risk it?
J Tariq Mohiuddin, Keezhcharakkalvilai
Question: Though the ruling party in Tamil Nadu, the DMK, has no majority, its friendly ally PMK will support it for the full term. I am willing to give this in writing, says Dr Ramadoss. Comment
Answer: The interesting part of this statement is in its preamble which points out the fact that the DMK government has no majority. Jayalalithaa has been annoying the CM by terming his regime, "minority government" all the time. Now, Dr Ramadoss also implied the same thing and raised the hackles of Karunanidhi.
P Balaji Ganesh, Kovilampoondi
Question: What do you make of M. K. Azhagiri's statement that the CM's family has broken all ties with the Marans and that they are a closed chapter?
Answer: The only thing to be noted about this is that it has been said only now.
J Jeyakumar, Nattarasankottai
Question: Attempts to cure diseases that have no cure are futile, says Karunanidhi. Comment
Answer: Everybody tries to seek temporary, imaginary solace even when suffering from incurable ailments by taking some medication. This is comparable with the exercise of elections. Doesn't everybody know that graft, dishonesty, irresponsibility and incapability of political parties are incurable? Yet, people try to replace one with another during elections under the false impression that a change will stem the rot at least temporarily. This would result in momentary diversion – a solace in itself.
Somu Murugan, Sethiathope
Question: What is the real reason behind the friction between the DMK and the PMK?
Answer: Somehow, I feel that this is the legacy of Dayanidhi Maran. Others in the DMK including Karunanidhi himself may have accentuated it, but the original application of sandpaper was by the ex-minister.
M Bhasker, Dindigul
Question: Have you noticed that a core group has been created under the leadership of Karti Chidambaram to find out ways and means to improve the future of the Congress in the TN?
Answer: Look at the development as the creation of a successor. That would be more apt.
A Zubeida, Villupuram
Question: What is the difference between the Left which criticises the ruling coalition at the Centre, yet keeps it in power and the PMK which does the same in Tamil Nadu?
Answer: The Left's threats to pull down the Central Government are like sweetmeats, which may be appealing but have to be avoided because they fear an incidence of diabetes (read BJP). Dr Ramadoss's affinity to sweets is comparable to a man who wishes to share them with others on a proper occasion. So, he is biding his time.
