Question: While we cry ourselves hoarse about culture and tradition, the Hollywood style of minimal attire seems creeping into our society. Where will it end?
Answer: Under such circumstances, usually native culture takes a step backwards. At least that is what history has taught us. Indian culture may now die a slow death.

Question: "Since the AIADMK members are wasting the House, from now onwards only one of its members will be allowed to speak during debates on demands for grants," says [Tamil Nadu Assembly] Speaker Auvudaiyappan. Comment.
Answer: To my knowledge, none of the speakers in the history of legislatures in India have ever passed such an order against a party that has a substantial number of members in any House. This is an injustice perpetrated against the AIADMK.

Question: Preferring an appeal with the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal is the correct way, says the Tamil Nadu government while Jayalalithaa claims that taking the matter to the Supreme Court is better. Which of these approaches is proper?
Answer: In my opinion, approaching the Tribunal would be a better option. If the matter reaches the Supreme Court first, it may ask the appellants to find a solution through the CWDT first and appeal against it only if needed.

Answer: I do not know how the satellite channel concerned handled the event per se. But an attack on its offices by those who were unable to accept a Hindu-Muslim marriage is not only plain arson but also is a criminal offence and ought to be condemned and punished.

Question: Due to a pending foreign trip, President [Abdul Kalam] has nominated Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee to take his place to felicitate Karunanidhi during the fete to celebrate his golden jubilee in the TN Assembly. Comment.
Answer: The President should really undertake a trip on that day to some country – even if it means travelling to Nepal or Bangladesh. Else Karunanidhi's disappointment may turn into annoyance.

Question: At what stage is the [elevation of] Tamil as a "classical language?"
Answer: Yesterday's news is today's history and the morrow's archaeological find. The "classical language" status of Tamil too fits into a similar description. It was news sometime ago. Soon it would be buried. In between it served a purpose of propaganda and profit.

Question: "If the results of the elections in UP end in a hung assembly, we will prefer to be in the opposition rather than aiding the formation of a coalition government," says the BJP. What do you make of it?

Question: "The DMK is like the Tiruvalluvar statue in Kanyakumari which stands bravely, unmoved by cyclones and tornadoes," says Karunanidhi. Comment.
Answer: I don't think that the comment has been made with complete conviction because [Karunanidhi] has his own doubts in the matter. During the immediate aftermath of [the 2004] tsunami, he enquired as to whether the statue was unharmed. This much has been admitted by the CM himself. In other words, he doesn't believe that the icon will remain unharmed in the face of natural calamities. Perhaps he has the same opinion about the DMK as well!

Question: "We may be legislators and ministers today, but will turn into ex-ministers and ex-MLAs tomorrow. But there will be no such change in the status of DMK workers," said Stalin in praise of his partymen. Comment.

Question: Do you think that so much debate is necessary about the causeway [Lord] Ram built?
Answer: There are many who do not believe that [Lord] Ram built the causeway. But the US space agency NASA says that a causeway exists from its aerial photographs. So, there is indeed a structure so ancient that its archaeological origins are yet to be established. Therefore, what is wrong in the demand for preserving such [a prehistoric] structure?
