Question: What do you make of Pazha Nedumaran's comment that no matter how many letters are sent to the Prime Minister by Karunanidhi on behalf of our fishermen, they will not bear any fruit?
Answer: Nedumaran has spoken as though he is a 'know all' and Karunanidhi is an ignoramus. While the CM is aware of the futility of his epistles, he also knows that they can serve the purpose of propaganda.

Question: "We only find fault with things we consider as mistakes. But, such criticism on our part has never been indecent. We do not comment on anybody's personal life. That is the culture we have been following always," says Dr Ramadoss. Comment. Answer: Most of what Dr Ramadoss claims in this aspect is true. His critiques never stoop to the levels exhibited by Kalaignar and Jayalalithaa.

Question: In the Cauvery issue, the units of the BJP in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka will espouse their respective states' causes, says the party's senior leader Venkiah Naidu. Comment. Answer: Venkiah Naidu is a bold man. He indeed needs to exhibit political sagacity to dub a cluster of regional units as a national party!

Question: Is the LTTE telling the truth when it says that its 'air force' will never be a threat to India?
Answer: The LTTE will not embark upon the misadventure of attacking India because its bosses know that such an attempt will result in our crushing their air-arm. That said, other dangers from the terrorists cannot be ignored.

Question: How do you view the retirement of India's wrist spinner Anil Kumble from one day internationals?
Answer: Though he was not a big spinner of the ball like Shane Warne, Kumble mesmerised batsmen with his accuracy. His retirement is a big loss to Indian cricket.

Question: Can Dr Ramadoss who wants the abolition of all wine shops prevent some of his party workers from drinking?
Answer: Of course he can't achieve that. But that fact doesn't mean that his war against liquor is a façade because he had insisted on the same thing even during the days when he had only been the leader of the Vanniyars.

Question: Would it be correct to call Dr Ramadoss who boldly criticises the DMK regime despite being its ally as a modern day [Mahabharata character] Vidura?
Answer: The comparison between Ramadoss and [the Ramayana demon] Kumbhakarna would be more apt since the medieval character was in slumber for a long time, but when he woke up he faulted [his elder brother] Ravana's actions, yet supported him in the war.

Question: Free colour televisions have been given to AIADMK workers as well, says MK Stalin. Comment.
Answer: I have gleaned that this is true in this statement through a few admissions from the common public.

Question: Why do 'non-partisan' political observers who fault Jayalalithaa for verbally assailing 'elder statesman' Karunanidhi overlook the latter's indecent critiques of the former?
Answer: Indecent critiques are part of the political culture in Tamil Nadu.
But it must be said that this retrograde step was initiated by the DMK. Though Jayalalithaa does occasionally dish out improper verbal assaults against the CM, the mild term for his 'ad-verse' literary retorts is "uncultured." But as this has become commonplace, nobody seems to be worked up about it.

Question: Instead of harping too much on the extent of the free land that is being given as a gift, people ought to think about its real value, says Karunanidhi. Comment.
Answer: So, the lands aren't meant for agricultural purposes and are meant to be resold? That is a new one. Be that as may be, is the 'palm-measure-land' really so dear? Have real estate prices risen to such a height?

Question: Why are the top nations in the world – USA, Russia, China, Japan, Germany etc. not showing any interest in cricket?
Answer: Only a few Commonwealth nations have exhibited some interest in this game. And that is only due to the fact that the British introduced it during the colonial period.

Question: What do you make the proclamation of J&K CM Ghulam Nabi Azad that the armed forces will not be withdrawn from the valley even if the [Muslim] masses decide not to vote [for the Congress in future]?
Answer: If the Congress stays steadfast on this stand, it would indeed be a welcome sign.
R Rajadurai, Sirkali
Question: Can improper comments made against somebody published verbatim in a newspaper? Wouldn't it mean transgressing the code of conduct for publications?
Answer: Scurrilous writing can mean legal action against the concerned publication as well. But if such a newspaper is prepared to face it, it is an altogether different matter.
R Rajadurai, Sirkali
Question: What do you think of the DMK regime's move to suddenly promote the CM's daughter Kanimozhi in governmental as well as NGO functions?
Answer: By according importance to two of his family members, Shiv Sena leader Bal Thackeray had to face the mortification of a split in his party. Kalaingar is adding to the numbers of his family members involved in politics. The Shiv Sena precedent, in this regard, is ominous.

Question: Don't you think that there will be no ruckus [in the DPA] if the DMK rules for two years and [allows] its [main] allies – viz. Congress and PMK to rule for one and a half years each?
Answer: Certainly there will not be any ruckus. But if that had been a precondition to the electoral alliance, its very existence would have been aborted. Without an alliance, naturally there wouldn't have been any quarrels [about the absence of a coalition ministry].
