Question: What do you make of Jayalalithaa's comment that the Tamil Nadu budget has paved a way between a temple tower and a trash heap?
Answer: This implies that for almost one year the fiscal position of the state was very good and by that adage is she according a "good conduct certificate" to the DMK regime?

Question: What is the real reason behind the spat between PMK and DMK?
Answer: I think it is [connected with the power equation] in New Delhi.
Babu Arul Joshi, Kalakkad
Question: Do you think all of Dr Ramadoss's criticisms against the DMK regime are justified?
Answer: Just because some of them are unacceptable, all of them ought not to be brushed aside as unjustified. Some of them are well founded.

Question: "Our government is being dubbed as a 'minority regime' only because we are friendly to the minorities," says Anbazhagan, the Tamil Nadu Finance Minister. Comment.
Answer: If this line of argument is correct, a government that seems to be centred around a family ought to be dubbed a family affair. That [should be] correct as well.

Question: Vaiko has no locus standi to talk about the Congress. If he continues to do so, Congress workers will rip apart his mask, says Krishnaswamy. Comment.
Answer: If the Congress knows that Vaiko is donning a mask, it should indeed be ripped apart. But the caveat about his silence doesn't seem like honesty. It rather sounds like blackmail.

Question: "There are complaints hinting at corruption within the judiciary. The main cause for this is the involvement of lawyers. How can judges be accept bribes if they aren't offered by advocates?" asks the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court AP Shah. What does this show?
Answer: If this averment can be justified, politicians can claim that they are being corrupted by only the entire population which offers bribes. Would that argument hold good as well?

Question: " The Tamil Nadu government is praiseworthy because its budget has followed the footsteps of the centre and has accorded importance to agriculture," says Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram. Comment.
Answer: Several critics have argued that the union budget didn't do any good to agriculture on several parameters. On that basis, if Chidambaram hails TN, it only means that he is poking fun at it.

Question: Pakistani Islamic leader Qazi Hussein Ahmed has gone on record saying that his followers will not accept the Hindu judge Bhagwan Das as the country's Chief Justice. Comment.
Answer: I don't think that it is the broad based opinion in Pakistan. On the contrary, the judge has a reputation of being totally honest according to the media in that country.

Question: Jayalalithaa calls the [Tamil Nadu] Legislative Assembly as a crocodile farm. Comment.
Answer: Though I don't know why she hates crocodiles, I can say that the reptiles don't end up making money out of the farms they inhabit.

Question: What do you think about almost all cricket fans [in India] saying that our team needs fresh blood?
Answer: These who say so imply that there is a wealth of fresh talent waiting in the wings to replace our present players. I doubt that school of thought.

Question: You seem to be annoyed at the very mention of cricket these days. If that is true, which game do you like better?
Answer: I have no anger against cricket per se. I am only angry about the circus it has turned out be these days. It has always been and continues to be my favourite game, because it is the only one I follow.

Question: "Ramadoss is a fraud. Nobody will ever accept him as a political leader," says DMK commentator Vetrikondan. Comment.
Answer: "In reality, this is Kalaingar's comment," Ramadoss was quoted as saying. Anbazhagan has reacted to that and claimed that the DMK leader never improperly criticised anyone. I am amused by this. Some of Karunanidhi's recent comments about Jayalalithaa and Vaiko are indeed vulgar.
On that count, this is a counterfeit certificate issued by Anbazhagan. For example, excerpts from Karunanidhi's 'cultured' retort to Jayalalithaa's query about the real income from Sun TV, reads as follows:
"… Some say that Karunanidhi runs his political party only for the benefit of his family. I indeed have a family, and I indeed head a political party. I am man enough… [and therefore] I have a family. What can those who are not so do about it?"
"…a person who looted the state exchequer demands accounts from me. What accounts should I furnish, my age…or…my progeny? Can you furnish your accounts?"
"…my accounts have been filed as [returns] in the income tax office. You can check them. If you need, I will pay your fuel bills for that. Do you want me to account at your residence? Do you know its consequences? Do you have any idea as to which accounts I can demand from you?"

Question: When will the DMK poll promise to roll back bus fares fructify?
Answer: You shouldn't be nagging [Karunanidhi] thus. The CM was forced to say, "we will at least gift real estate the size of palms." If you do the same about fares, he may react by saying, "we will at least reduce the fare for one seat in one bus." Don't you think the existing comedy is enough? Please don't trigger an addition to it.

Question: What is your take on huge amounts of cash recovered during raids from arrested brokers connected with cricket betting syndicates in Chennai?"
Answer: I don't think that these were connected with match-fixing. In other words, these people weren't working with players to throw specific games. These people were purely involved in gambling, whose profits depended only on luck. This may be illegal [in India] but such bets weren't interfering with specific results.

Question: Do you think that Rahul Gandhi's electioneering will have no bearing on the final outcome in the UP polls?
Answer: That is what it looks like, for the time being, to me. But at the same time, Congress's common cause with a farmers' body may help the party. If that has any effect, it may be dubbed as Rahul Gandhi's contribution. As of now, it is thumbs down for him.
KN Balakrishnan, Kumbhakonam 1
Question: What do you think is the significance of Rahul Gandhi's claim that had his family been in the forefront in politics, the Babri Mosque wouldn't have been demolished?
Answer: Rahul Gandhi implies that it is not enough if the Congress governs the country. The real power ought to be in the hands of the successors of Indira Gandhi, in his reckoning. That is an insult to the Congress.

Question: Why do you think that the suspense continues about the cause of Bob Woolmer's death?
Answer: This only points to the possibility of a few governments' attempts to save the real killers. Let us hope that these fears are unfounded.

Question: Minister Durai Murugan seems to have turned into a serious Hindu devotee during his visit to the Thiruvattaar temple. Comment.
Answer: That is good for him. But if he preaches atheism after this that will be open to criticism.
Sri Vidya Kalidas, Chidambaram 2
Question: India stands fifth in the list of most corrupt nations of the world. Comment.
Answer: Let us not be hasty. In a few years' time, we may top the list. We can pat ourselves on the back then by the knowledge of having won the World Cup!

Question: Who is responsible for the common public turning into cricket fanatics?
Answer: That was achieved by Kerry Packer who was a media mogul in Australia during his lifetime who ran a major television channel. He started what came to be known in the history of one day internationals as "cricket circus" with stars from all over the globe playing televised matches. All the cricket bodies of the world and the ICC accepted his format and it changed the way the game was played. It helped television channels as commercials poured during their telecasts. From a sport it morphed into a circus under his baton. This led to those who knew little about the game to become fanatics. The madness spread all over the world. And it was all because of one man – Kerry Packer.
